How do you approach a body of water? Do you approach it as a body, a thing, an environment, a living-place? Is it alive? This art-science walk-workshop will explore different ways of noticing and describing the Liesingbach — ways that are offered by, and emerge from, the stream itself. Together, we will create a portrait of this fragile and dynamic urban-aquatic entity from the vantage place of its most recently renaturated section. With artist-researcher Lili Carr and citizen-scientist Eva Manzenreiter. All are welcome!
Meeting point: Infocenter B.A.C.H.L.
In English, with German translation.
We will walk in the stream bed - please bring sun protection and suitable footwear!
The first ‘renaturation’ project on the Liesing was undertaken in 1997. Between 2012 and 2016 three further ‘nature restoration’ measures were implemented. Today, the stream is about to undergo the fourth out of six restoration efforts over six urban sections in the lower Liesing. But what do we mean by ‘renaturation’ and ‘nature restoration’? What kinds of natures are we talking about, and what exactly is being restored?
With thanks to Marlies Greußing and Norbert Friedl of Stadt Wien.
