The Mühlwasser, whose name means “mill water,” was orginally one of many side arms and flood channels of the Danube, formed by the river’s relentlessly shifting course through its floodplain. Disconnected from the river by the Danube regulation project of 1870-1875, today the Mühlwasser flows as a remnant of the former river, fed by a small channel from the Alte Donau.
